What’s New in Opus Suite Version 2017?
With the new version of Opus Suite, which is released in April, we aim to strengthen the predictive analytics and decision support capabilities in areas that are prioritized by our customers. More extensive simulation results enhances the ability to perform consequence and risk analyses, which gives a strategic edge when e.g. defining support agreements. Expanded maintenance task modelling facilitates more comprehensive maintenance concept optimization (LORA XT) and enhancements in CATLOC enable streamlined cost analyses in rollout or phase out scenarios. Additionally, performance, integration and usability has been further improved.

Continuous customer focused development with annual releases of Opus Suite is a strategic part of our aim to remain at the forefront and to provide users the best possible decision support for Life Cycle Management of technical systems within analysis areas like ILS (Integrated Logistics Support), LSA (Logistic Support Analysis), LCC (Life Cycle Cost) and RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety).

News and improvements
Improved integration is an ongoing focus in the Opus Suite development. Externally, i.e. ability to interface with other IT-solutions – which in the new version means that the JSON text format can be used for effective import and export of data. As well as internally, i.e. between the Opus Suite tools, to make it as easy and effective as possible to utilize the full spectrum of functionality in OPUS10, SIMLOX and CATLOC.
For example, to perform analyses in one of the tools utilizing input data and results from the other two. It is primarily the CATLOC-integration that has improved further in the new version, through implementation of a common Opus Suite model for cost related data, and through new flexible modelling of time intervals in CATLOC.
Software performance has always been an Opus Suite strength. General trends like big data and increasingly powerful computers, coupled with our customers’ desires to analyse increasingly complex and variable scenarios, means that larger and more complicated models are built in Opus Suite. At the same time, new powerful and demanding features are implemented in the tools.
All combined, this means requirements for software performance are increasing, and especially so when it comes to simulation. For this reason, the ability to run parallel executions that was implemented in version 2016 has been followed by further improvements, which means that runtimes for SIMLOX have been reduced by another 20-50%. OPUS10 and CATLOC have also become faster.
Simulation results per replication
Design of performance based support contracts is a complicated matter. Especially as the terms of the agreement normally have major impact on both economy and operations, and hence ultimately the customer-supplier relation, often for long periods of time.
Therefore, it is important for all involved parties that requirements, incentives and measurement procedures are defined properly to steer the collaboration towards a win-win scenario. Modelling and simulation can then provide essential guidance by e.g. predicting the effect of different approaches and KPI targets.
Opus Suite is increasingly used for such analyses, and in this context, the new ability to analyse SIMLOX results per replication will be especially useful. For example, to simulate operational performance, cost, profit margins and risk levels for different contracting solutions.
Extended maintenance concept optimization
As most readers are aware, OPUS10 provides not only optimal spares assortments, but the optimization may include the entire maintenance concept. This functionality, called LORA-XT, has been continuously extended to become increasingly capable and flexible.
Version 2017 introduces the ability to include system level maintenance and furthermore, in scenarios with a large number of possible maintenance alternatives, these can be auto-generate according to chosen settings.
Cost analysis of fleet roll-out or phase-out scenarios
The ability to successively adjust and optimize a support solution in time-phased scenarios, like a stepwise rollout or phase-out of a system fleet, has been available in Opus Suite for years.
This functionality makes it possible to achieve optimal build up or downsizing of the support organization, spares assortment, personnel and other resources to ensure cost effective support in each phase. In the new version, the results from such phased scenario optimizations can be directly linked or imported to CATLOC, to facilitate further cost analyses.
To conclude this summary, the modelling of preventive maintenance has been augmented and the user interface has been further improved through a number of new navigation buttons and short cuts.
